Dr Sun obtained his PhD degree in Private International Law from Wuhan University, China and Master degree in International Law and Comparative Law from the University of Melbourne, Australia. He was the chief negotiator and the major member of Chinese Delegation in the negotiations of many international conventions and legal instruments on private international law, international criminal justice, human rights and state immunity as well as bilateral treaties on judicial assistance and the promotion and protection of investments such as China-US, China-Canada and China-Japan-Korea. He has published books on international law and academic papers in both Chinese and English. Before taking up the current role, he was Deputy Director General of Foreign Affairs Bureau of Supreme People’s Court, China; Counselor & Legal Adviser of Chinese Embassy in the United States; as well as Director of Department of Treaty and Law of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, PRC.
